Otherwise known as a junction box, a ceiling fan rated electrical box is a round or octagonal shaped UL- listed container used to house electrical wire connections. They are mounted to the ceiling joist, wood block or an adjustable brace. An electrical box approved for ceiling fans will be marked "Acceptable for Fan Support" and are typically rated to support between 35 and 70 lb. fixtures. Many Hunter Fan hanging systems will not fit a ceiling box that is not rated for ceiling fans. In this case, the mounting bracket must be fastened to a ceiling stud for the proper support.
If you need to have a new ceiling fan rated electrical box installed, we recommend you hire a certified electrician.
